Stay Healthy Remedies?

I wish I had a picture of Alex and Zachary sprawled out on the couch being zombies together! I think it is a common scene in many households. So I pose the question: Those who have steered clear of getting sick, what are you doing to keep you and your family healthy? Of course the handwashing and staying away from sick people are givens. I have friends who swear by Airborne, nasal saline solution, exercise, daily cod liver oil capsule...to name a few.

Any home remedies that work for you?

  1. All three of my kids are sick right now! But being 3, 2, 1 year olds, they share way too many things! I only got a small dose of their nasaly sickness, I think because I've been taking Vitamin C and working out every day. I guess I mostly blame Vitamin C in this instance. We also got the flu shot...and we are getting H1n1 shots today (a few of us at least)...my sister has her kids wipe down the whole house weekly with wipes...we do it often as we can...

  2. I know this doesn't really help little kids but when I start getting a sore strachy throat I Gargle with listerine. It helps kill off some of the Bacteria. There have been times when I have done this that I haven't developed a full blown cold etc. Hard to teach kids to do that though But works for us oldies LOL

  3. ZICAM works like a charm. Once you feel the tickle in the throat, run to the store and buy it. It's costly, but worth it. In the mean time I use Lysol wipes to clean high traffic areas like bathrooms and kitchens. I've even bought the Lysol spray to kill germs on door knobs and other "all day touch" areas. I've been especially neurotic about germs be/c of the pregnancy.
    Hope that helps.

  4. Thanks! I feel like I want to hose everyone and everything with Lysol all day long! :) I think Shayla might be old enough to do the listerine. My sister swears by working out, too. Zachary had the flu AND H1N1 vaccine and he has been sick. (When he is sick...the WHOLE household suffers!) So far Luke, Shayla, Dave and I have dodged the sickness. I do use nasal saline pretty frequently for the kids. It is supposed to create too much salinity in the nasal/ throat tissues for the germs to stick and breed.
